Port Adelaide was first declared a port in 1837. Today it is a bustling maritime suburb with so many things to do and see that it is well worth a visit. The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) was established in 1881 and was originally known as the National Gallery of South Australia. Located in the centre of Adelaide, the gallery is open daily from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. General admission is free though there may be a charge for some special exhibitions. The Art Gallery of South Australia is home to nearly 47,000 pieces of art produced over the past 2,000 years.
