If you’re looking to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind, The Coach Company New Zealand has you covered with coach trips 1-2 hours away from Auckland. Experience amazing views and scenery in luxury comfort with a variety of options available for your next day out.

Karekare Beach

Travel Time: 45 minutes

Travel Distance from Auckland: About 39km

Karekare Beach is located to the west of Auckland City and can be reached on Aucklandbushire. Escape to beaches in the scorching summer heat. Its location has ancient indiginous ancestry. The native tribe is known as Te Kawerau ā Maki Iwi who continue myths and legends associated with Karekare Beach. There are magnificent cliffs and the gigantic dome-like remains of million years old volcanic eruptions.

The rocky landscape of cliffs has mini spaces which are caves, again are part of the native legend tales, that the giant cliff is a representation of parents while two other nearby smaller cliffs represent their two children. Out of these smaller cliffs, the closer one is the obedient child while the other one, on the north side was the disobedient child who strolled far away neglecting his parents’ commands. It is an interesting fun fact that claims that this all happened recently when even inanimate objects moved until one day they became frozen. The beach attracts tourists to swim but take care – make sure there are life guards on duty as the sea can be treacherous. The land is rich in the production of sweet potatoes, so you may enjoy them after a tiring swim. A day out with Auckland bus hire.

Piha

Travel Time: 49 minutes

Travel Distance from Auckland: 38 km

Auckland itself is sometimes referred to as a sailing city due to the major proportion of the vista being an ocean. Likewise, many nearby destination spots within 50 km are well-known beaches that are vital tourist spots to be enjoyed – especially in summer. Piha Beach is one of the very first internationally acclaimed places where surfing competitions were held. Piha offers not only the sight and amusement of the beach but its location on the edge of Waitākere Ranges makes it exotic and has a splendid natural view. Aucklandbushire operating in the region has the best possible services. The Lion Rock is a huge cliff that is a major attraction – the headland structure of the Lion Rock is it resembles the animal. Piha Beach offers a fantastic atmosphere to lose any negative energy and fill your soul with positivity. Contact Aucklandbushire, start your adventure.

Bethells Beach

Travel Time: 38 minutes

Travel Distance from Auckland: 37.4 km

This coastal settlement, like many others, is to the west of the city. The language of the native people of this region is Māori and Bethells Beach, in the native indigenous language, is referred to as Te Henga. The Maori native name emanates from the parallel dune ridges created by ocean sand deposits. The beach was later entitled Bethells Beach and not Te Henga because a family named Bethell owned the major part of this land area. Hence, the European tourists or migrants who frequently visited the spot call it Bethell’s Beach. Auckland Coach, Bus and Minibus hire is at your service, to roam around without the fuss of worrying about the care of your automobiles.

Only surf in the flag marked areas controlled by the surf patrol club. Fishing at the nearby lake Wainamu is encouraged and any fish you might catch can be enjoyed at a picnic on the beach. Save that idea for your next visit.

It is way better to use luxury coaches from Aucklandbushire because, in summer, tourists pack the beach leaving no space for car parking. Guys, it is a must-go place if you are an Auckland. Apart from enjoying the beach vibes, the place also offers room to explore the native ancestry. The cape was historically inhabited as a communal settlement by the Polynesians.

Architecture plays an eminent role en route to this beach via Aucklandbushire. Several tracks are made to reconnoiter forest avenues from the beaches into bushes. Short walks and strolls make one feel closer to nature.

Warkworth

Travel time: 46 min

Travel Distance from Auckland: 60 km

The town of Warkworth is full of great activities, situated just north of Auckland. You are going to have an immense lot of fun once you start to roam around town after your cool ride from Auckland bus and minibus hire. It has a great mix of things to do, offering all sorts of sightseeing. The accommodation, food, festivities, activities, cultural heritages, galleries, vineyards – all of this in one place ! Isn’t it amazing? Okay, let me answer this on your behalf. Yes, it is amazing and amusing at the same time. If you are a foodie at heart, this place is entirely for you. Aucklandbushire luxury coach takes you there.

The specialties are delicious Chardonnay, and classic red varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon. Matakana is located on the Kowhai Coast, named after the indigenous tree. There is a local museum exhibiting artifacts and the local artistic heritage.

Waihi

Travel Time: 1 hour 43 minutes

Travel distance from Auckland: 142 km

The town started as a gold mining center, and grew rapidly attracting many immigrants. There is a wonderful 10 kilometer beach here, white sand abounds. If gold mines are your thing then visit Martha Mine using auckland bus hire. The ancient mine crater is lined with a walking track where you can stroll and gaze in wonder at how they must have worked in the olden days. Waihi Golf Club is the best place to pay a visit if you champion the art of golf or have an interest in playing this sport. The coastal settlement of Bowentown near Waihi beach can be visited to have a look at the Pa Sites which are the fortified shelters used by women and children in times of war. Furthermore, Waihi beach can be used by you for your picnic plans, and of course swimming, surfing, and fishing.

130 KM from Sydney CBD about a 2 hour drive

Kiama is a seaside town with white sandy beaches and rolling surf that attracts people from all over Australia. The main attractions are the famous Blowhole, Minnamurra Rainforest and Jamberoo Wildlife Sanctuary – all within easy reach of Sydney. The village is cute, the scenery is amazing and the food delicious. It’s also a great place to meet people as everyone is always friendly. There’s a great selection of restaurants too so you can have your pick of cuisine options.

Perfect for a day trip if you’re based in the city, or a weekend. It’s also great for longer holidays as you can easily spend several weeks travelling up and down this part of New South Wales.

Saddleback Mountain Lookout: offers visitors spectacular views to the east over the ocean and to the north to Bulli from a steep windy road. Once in the car park there is a sign mapping out the 3 lookouts. One up the hill, one to the left and one to the right. The one up the hill is blocked by trees so not worth the treck. The one to the left is not well signed posted but walk down a grassy hill and enter a path at the bottom that leads you into a tree covered path for about 5 min. While this view is lovely the best and easily accessible lookout is the one directly off the car park to the right. It is only a 1-2 min walk and has the far superior views.

Cathedral Rocks: Located just three kilometres north of Kiama at the southern end of Jones Beach, this distinctive rock formation is part of the geologically fascinating coastline. Cathedral Rocks, has lured sightseers since 1890. These volcanic rocks, while intensely hard, have many joints. These joints have been eroded over the years, leaving these mysterious rock formations. The rocks may be viewed from Cliff Drive or studied from close range by approaching from the north. These rocks are a photographer’s delight!

Crookhaven Heads Lighthouse: looking for a quick walk and not afraid of steps then take a pretty walk up to the now disused Crookhaven Lighthouse. Overlooking the rocks at low tide, clear views from Orient Point, Greenwall Point, Seven Mile Beach through to Penguin Head. Lots of rock fishing happening during low tide. The original Crookhaven Heads Lighthouse was constructed of timber in 1882 and located as part of the Shoalhaven Signal Station on the beach 200 metres to the west of the current lighthouse. The new brick lighthouse to the south of the mouth of the Shoalhaven River was commissioned in 1904 and the old wooden lighthouse was immediately demolished.

1 hour 15 minutes by a luxury coachhire.com.au coach

Wollongong is a coastal city in Australia, south of Sydney along the Grand Pacific Drive. Surfing beaches and rock pools line the coastline. Trails encircle the forests and rocky cliffs of Mt. Keira in the Illawarra mountain range, which frames the city. To the north, hang gliders launch from Bald Hill. South lie the Buddhist temple of Nan Tien and Lake Illawarra, a large lagoon with boating and fishing facilities.

Sea Cliff Bridge

The Sea Cliff Bridge, together with the adjoining Lawrence Hargrave Drive Bridge, are two road bridges that carry the scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive across the rockface on the Illawarra escarpment, located in the northern Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The balanced cantilever and incremental launching girder bridges link the coastal villages of Coalcliff and Clifton and carry two lanes of traffic, and a pedestrian walkway. The Sea Cliff Bridge was named by Makenzie Russell, who at the time was an eleven-year-old student, following a naming competition opened to local primary school students. The Lawrence Hargrave Drive Bridge and the Lawrence Hargrave Drive are named in honour of Lawrence Hargrave, an Australian engineer, explorer, astronomer, inventor and aeronautical pioneer.

Wollongong Art Gallery

Managed by Wollongong City Council, is one of the largest regional art museums in Australia. Its aim is to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts for the people of the Illawarra and visitors to the region. Wollongong Art Gallery has an important collection of Australian, Aboriginal and Asian art. The permanent collection not only documents Illawarra regional histories and art practices, but also reflects developments and issues in art of local, national and international relevance. The diverse program includes exhibitions and activities that highlight the unique energy and creativity of the Illawarra region, as well as those derived from partner institutions around Australia and the world.

Royal National Park

When exploring Royal National Park you can see a range of Aboriginal sites and artefacts. The best way to find out more about Aboriginal cultural heritage in the park is on a tour with an Aboriginal Discovery ranger. You might also spot one of the 80 historic remnants from the park’s Victorian-era establishment, including ornamental trees and residential remains. Who needs a gym? At Royal National Park you can hike, swim and row to your heart’s content. Hire a paddleboat from the Audley boatshed or surf the renowned Garie Beach. Jog along sandstone cliffs, attempt over 100km of walking tracks or try mountain biking the East Heathcote trails (be sure to note the ‘no sign–no ride’ policy). Located at Audley, just 32km from Sydney city, the park offers incredible beauty and natural diversity just minutes from the highway and train station. Spanning Port Hacking to Helensburgh, the park features multiple entry points and is well signposted, though it’s always a good idea to take a Royal National Park map.

132 kilometers and 1.5 hours south west of Sydney

The Southern Highlands, also locally referred to as the Highlands, is a geographical region and district in New South Wales, Australia and is 110 km south-west of Sydney. The entire region is under the local government area of the Wingecarribee Shire. The region is also considered a wine region. The Highlands have been a magnet for travellers for more than a century, drawn to the lush landscapes, bucolic charm and a slew of pretty villages. A new generation of food-makers, wineries, retailers and hoteliers continue to make the region the ideal destination to rewind, refresh and rejuvenate.

Towns & villages

Home to beautifully preserved colonial architecture, colourful gardens and manicured estates, the towns of the Southern Highlands offer a definitive touch of class. Bowral is the largest, famed for elegant boutiques, acclaimed restaurants and the colourful Tulip Time Festivall. You’ll also find the legendaryBradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame. A short drive southwest is the historic Georgian village of Berrima. Refresh yourself at the convict-built Surveyor General Inn. Nearby Mittagong is a picturesque town with fine colonial buildings and specialty stores.

Short breaks

From magical waterfalls in magnificent national parks to boutique wineries and cellar doors, there’s plenty to explore. For jaw-dropping views visit the stunning Fitzroy Falls in Morton National Park. Or explore peaceful bushwalks, such as the Lovers walking track, connecting Echo Point picnic area with Bonnie View.

Morton National Park

Easily accessible from Nowra, Morton National Park is great for a daytrip or school excursion. Visit Fitzroy Falls for scenic waterfall views; go mountain biking, walking or enjoy a picnic lunch. Be enthralled by nature on a grand scale at Morton National Park. If the cascading Fitzroy Falls don’t leave you breathless, try the sweeping views from the top of Pigeon House Mountain Didthul. This enormous park really does have something for everyone; whether you’re an experienced bushwalker looking for remote wilderness hiking, a novice mountain biker looking for an easy ride or a keen photographer looking for some scenic waterfalls to capture. You’ll find imposing gorges dissecting the landscape alongside pockets of rainforest that are full of wildlife. There are a number of well equipped picnic areas and numerous informal spots where you can stop for a break to enjoy the view and if you’d like to go camping, head to Gambells Rest campground in the Bundanoon precinct of the park.

Travel time from Sydney is about 2 hours

Newcastle is a harbour city in the Australian state of New South Wales. Its plentiful beaches are linked by the Bathers Way, a coastal walk stretching between Nobbys Beach and Merewether Beach. The walk provides access to Bogey Hole, a convict-built ocean bath from the colonial period. Also on the path is the 1880s Fort Scratchley, a historic site and a viewpoint for spotting migrating whales.

Newcastle Art Gallery

Nationally recognised as one of the finest public collections in Australia, Newcastle Art Gallery holds over 7,000 works of art and the quality and breadth of its collection makes it a significant cultural asset for the city. The collection reflects the history of Newcastle as the eighth largest city in Australia. Established in 1804 as a penal settlement, and the earliest works in the Gallery’s collection are by convict artists. Joseph Lycett’s paintings of early Newcastle, or Coal River as it was known in the early nineteenth century, give central prominence to Nobbys headland, the quintessential feature of Newcastle harbour. Lycett’s early views of Newcastle also document the Indigenous inhabitants of the region, namely the Awabakal and Worimi people, whose lands spread north of the Hunter River and south to encompass Lake Macquarie. You can find more information about the collection in the Collection pages.

Newcastle Memorial Walk

Newcastle’s Memorial Walk is a spectacular coastal walk with a personal connection for thousands of locals.

The Walk is located above Memorial Drive The Hill, on Strzelecki Headland (between Bar Beach and King Edward Park). The Anzac walk was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and the commencement of steel making in Newcastle; it acts as a magnificent memorial to the men and women of the Hunter who served their community and their country. The structure cost $4.5m to build and is a 450 meter long cliff top walkway that links Newcastle’s Strzelecki Lookout to Bar Beach.

Newcastle museum

Newcastle Museum was originally founded in 1988 as a major Bicentennial project and has been located in the Honeysuckle Railway Workshops since 4 August 2011.

The former Castlemaine Brewery

The original idea for a Museum in Newcastle was developed by a consortium of interested parties, including the institution of Engineers and Supernova Inc. who worked hard to promote the idea of a regional Museum in the 1980s.

The site originally selected by this group was the Honeysuckle Railway Workshops, then still in the hands of the State Rail Authority. Moves to acquire that site failed and a decision was made to acquire and restore the former Castlemaine Brewery in Hunter Street, Newcastle West.

The Castlemaine Brewery was home to the former Museum from 1988 until 2008 when it closed to allow for the new Museum in Honeysuckle to be built.

The Museum in the Honeysuckle Railway Workshops

The Honeysuckle Railway Workshops are unique pieces of classic railway architecture. There are three buildings listed with the National Trust:

Locomotive Boiler Shop

New Erecting Shop

Blacksmith and Wheel Shop

Locomotive Boiler Shop

The former Locomotive Boiler Shop is an example of Victorian Romanesque Architecture and was constructed between 1882 – 1887. Original plans for the building were changed to fit in a large overhead ‘Craven’ crane, the only one in the southern hemisphere. The Boiler Shop operated for 42 years until 1929 when the work was taken over by the new Cardiff Locomotive Workshop. The Boiler Shop was later used as a timber mill (1937 – 1940) and then as a Locomotive Machine Shop. It became Elcom’s first diesel operated power station in 1951 and from 1957 served as a motor vehicles garage for NSW State rail Authority. It is now permanent home to Supernova, the interactive science exhibit.

New Erecting Shop

The New Erecting Shop was constructed in 1920 as an adjunct to the Old Erecting Shop which was demolished. Locomotive engines or rolling stock due for repair went to the New Erecting Shop where they were dismantled, sent for repair and returned for re-assembly. The sawtooth roof contrasts with the style of other buildings, reflecting changes that occurred in building technology and architecture since the 1880s. The building was extensively damaged in the 1989 earthquake and now includes a substantial concrete structure to stiffen the building in case of another earthquake. The building is now home to Fire and Earth, including the BHP story and an exhibition on coal mining.

Blacksmith’s and Wheel Shop

The Blacksmith’s shop is one of the oldest of the three buildings and was built in 1880 out of local bricks. The Blacksmith’s and Wheel Shop was responsible for all the wheel shop and smithing work required by other workshops on the site. It continued its role for 55 years up to 1937.

Only 1 hour north of Sydney

The Central Coast is an easy one-hour drive north from Sydney. Simply log onto the website coachhire.com.au, hire a coach with driver, and enjoy the scenery along the Pacific Highway – Australia’s National Route 1 – you will head north from Sydney’s city centre and join the M1 Pacific Motorway.

The Central Coast is a favourite weekend destination for tourists and locals alike. Known for its beautiful harbour setting, lovely beaches, pretty local villages, boutique hotels, stunning coastal terrain, great shopping and lush national parks, it makes for a perfect holiday. There are several popular beach towns here, including Terrigal.

Terrigal

Terrigal is a coastal town in the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, located 12 kilometres east of Gosford on the Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Central Coast Council local government area. Terrigal is home to a number of both natural and man-made landmarks. The Skillion is a sedimentary rock formation which was formed in the Triassic Period. Not only is the Skillion a beautiful artifact, the flip-side features an extremely steep hill which is used for exercise by locals and tourists. The Terrigal Boardwalk was opened on the 14th April 2021, and was commissioned by thelocal council and partially funded by the NSW Government. The boardwalk provides a link between the Terrigal Beach, the rockpools, boatramp, and The Skillion, an inviting ramble.

Get back to nature on the Bouddi coastal walk

Bouddi National Park is a stunningly beautiful bushland area, just a short stroll from Bells at Killcare. It’s home to the eight-kilometre Bouddi coastal walk, which follows the curve of the coastline on dramatic cliffs, along icy white beaches and through lush woodland. Whales migrate along this section of coastline between May and November each year.

Feed a crowd of hungry pelicans

The Entrance is home to several of the best beaches in the area. Once you’ve finished exploring the sandy bluffs and long stretches of sand, head to Pelican Plaza, where, every day at 3.30pm, a large crowd of hungry pelicans assembles to eat whole fresh fish in a tradition that’s more than 20 years old. It started when staff at the local fish shop began feeding scraps to birds at the end of each day. Today, Pelican Plaza – a specially built section of Memorial Park – is a well-loved spot where visitors and locals get close to these unusual-looking Australian birds.
The Hunter Valley, only a two-hour drive from Sydney, is the birthplace of Australian wines. Known for its exquisite varieties of semillon and shiraz, the Hunter is renowned worldwide as a leading gourmet getaway. There are over 150 cellar doors and a growing number of innovative restaurants offering opportunities for indulgence across every pocket of the region. Its strong history of farming lends itself to incredible paddock to plate and biodynamic experiences, adding that extra satisfaction to your gourmet delights. Around your sampling, soak up the region’s natural wonders, unwind at one of the many day spas or sing your heart out with music between the vines.
